Thanks Tony,

And that runs everything 100% yeah? Im looking at an I3 dual core which should do the trick. I think with emulators there needs to be a good processor in there and decent graphics card but the cpu is the most important. Atleast this is what seems to be what I can find online.

I know Mame will be fine but I want a PC that will future proof me also for all the other emulators, PS 2, Naomi, game Cube. Alot of people are having problems with there pc specs. Seems 313ghz and above will be OK.

If anyone see's this isn't right please jump in here as I don't want to make a bad purchase.

Cheers. ]]>

I think if it works with majority of MAME installations, and you have a very very small space that a pc wont fit into, maybe worth using.
But for that price, you could just buy a small form factor PC, psu and graphics.
Just my opinion though. I do like the idea ]]>

Hi guys,

We have recently picked up one of the new USB powered PC's for work and i have been having a play with it, it got me thinking that it might be possible to run this directly from a Jamma Connection as it only requires a 5v 2amp power supply, i am currently running it from a spare USB port on my work computer.

Here is the device:

Here is the spec:
CPU Intel® Atom™ Processor Z3735F (2M Cache, up to 1.83GHz)
CPU Type Quad Core
Memory 2GB DDR3
Storage 32GB eMMC (24.8GB Free Space)
Bios Insyde 8MB UEFI
OS Windows 8.1
Display Via HDMI
Wifi; Bluetooth 802.11bgn; 4.0
Button / Indicator Power, OS / Power
Input / Output 1 x Micro USB, 1 x USB 2.0, 1 x Micro SD card reader
Dimensions 110.9 * 38 * 9.8 mm
Weight 38 grams
Accessories HDMI cable, QSG, Charger

Now i havent had much time to play with this yet but i have quickly tested out some Roms with it, here are the few results:

Nintendo64 - Tried 5 games
Mario 64 - Plays 100%
Doom 64 - Plays 100%
Turok - Plays 100%
Resident Evil 2 - Loads to menu but couldnt get ingame
007 Goldeneye - Gets in game but plays slow

Mame
Metal Slug X - Seemed to play fine

sadly im at work so dont have access to my romsets at home so only have a few things to test but im quite happy with how everything has gone so far.

now the question is could we use something as low powered as this instead of those BlueElf or whatever they are called multi-cards. the advantage i suppose is that this device is running Windows 8 however i have a horrible feeling that it wont allow resolutions under 1024 x 768 so it may not be possible but i just liked the idea of a portable PC that can run inside a Jamma Cab.

Check out my awesome diagram below to give you an idea of what i am thinking.

Please share any thoughts guys

thanks!

You need to set the HLSL binary to 1 in the mame.ini file to get scanlines, and then tweak the rest of the D3D post-processing options to get the look you want. Default settings make the picture look like a crusty arcade monitor that has seen too much sun! I actually quite like the look.

Full set of instructions here including a really good profile that you can simply cut and paste across in the .ini:

http://www.videogameperfection.com/2014/07/27/hlsl-for-everyone/

If you're missing the .ini file like I was, simply create it via command prompt in the mame.exe directory (-createconfig)

Hope that all makes sense ]]>

Mame seems to have an issue with saving P2 controls, unless that controller always stays on.
I think the only way arround this is to use xpadder.

Is there much work to it?

What would be a good way to get the sound through the original speakers from my pc?

Would I need a simple small amp?

Any advice on wich amp?
