I live in Bournemouth.. for another month anyway. Can't think of any other word to describe the arcades there but sh*t. The one along from the pier is falling apart. You'll be lucky to get a working game t here.

The rotunda by the pier is alright I guess, but the best thing there used to be a multi-game cab that played old games and it's gone now. One little cab in the whole place full of gun games and racing games and it couldn't even survive.

If you're thinking of visiting for them.. don't bother!

I visited Bournemouth today and went along the pier to an arade called Happyland Amusements (anything but Unhappy).  I took a picture a few years ago...is this the one that used to be called Funland?

Anyway all they have now are Time Crisis 2, Ridge Racer and Big Buck Hunter..for £1 a go!Angry

Yeah that's one and the same.  The cabs are cast offs from the pier which I noticed in the mid 90s, whether true back to the 80s, I'm not sure.

TBH a bit non desrcipt and pointless place all round.

Gotta agree.. I'm surprised that place is still running. I always pop into the Show Bar tho - that place is the nutsShift+R improves the quality of this image. Shift+A improves the quality of all images on this page.

Just an update that Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing, ALL of the Daytona 2 DX's and Dancing Stage Supernova have gone. :(

However..

There is now a pair of Daytona USA twins! :P

A friend of mine that works there also mentioned that they'll be getting some new cabs in January..

This is so depressing. All my best arcade memories are from Bournemouth and Boscome. Cry I remember there was a little upstairs arcade along the seafront, too. You had to go up some stone steps on the outside of the building. I never did rate Sega World much.

Hey cool at least they got something different in to spice things up.

Can't comment on the game as I haven't played it but I am back home in Bournemouth on Sunday night so may go have a quick play on Monday during the day.

Great thing about working shifts is places like this are always empty during the day! Big smile sadly this place is pretty empty whenever I walk past Unhappy

Sega World is now Fun Central owned by ex Bowlplex managing director.

The whole place is run on a shoe string and looks a shadow of its former self.

Popped in briefly today for a quick go on Outrun 2SP and the Transformers game. There are a few machines inside.

House of the Dead 4
Time Crisis 4
Daytona USA Twin
Outrun 2SP (triple)
Transformers Human Annihilation
Lets Go Jungle

The place is pretty dreary really but at least it is still there and there were a few people milling about. I enjoyed my go on Outrun although I am terrible at it! and I thought transformers was okay but nothing special, really heavy on the shock and awe from outside (huuuuge cab, bumblebees head on it, lights etc) but the game isn't strong enough to keep you dropping quids.

Its just seems a shame that so many 'arcades' just fill the place with fruit machines or odd gimmicky games like an arcade version of Doodle Jump?! I guess these are the things that make money these days though.

Popped into Fun Central this week, its still there and has all the same cabs listed above, not much else to report really. I am glad it is still here but it doesn't look like they are updating the game selection very often. Segaworld as it opened in the 90's was my absolute favourite arcade, so its sad to see How small Fun Central is, but it does look like the place is being maintained well.

Cherries had been in Boscombe for a number of years, under a few different names. They used to have a fair few cabs back in the late 80's early 90's, but then went mostly fruits until they closed down about 8 years ago.
I dont suppose you ever went to Quay Amusements, down at Christchurch Quay ?
Rich

Yeah that was the one.

Only saw Cherries in Bmth but did see the arcade off the precint which I think is still there but probably just fruits. Seem to remember it closed and reopened.

Don't recall ever going to Christchurch Quay Amusements which for me would have been odd as was always keen to check out any arcade in the area, but suppose if my parents never went round that way then wouldn't have seen it but do remember going to the quay from time to time.

Cheers
Greg

I remember Quay Amusements! It was quite small, almost like a big shed if I remember. My memory of that place is being stung in the leg by a wasp while playing a game in there! Couldn't tell you what the game was though...

I went down Bournemouth pier today and there was Jurassic park (new version) and some driving and bike games, but the rest is about making money through fruit machines, horse racing and penny pushers.

What used to be Sega World is now called "fun Central" (link below) which does appear to have outrun 2 and the original Daytona Twin sitdown. The rest is redemption and fruit machines.

http://www.funcentral.co.uk/games_info/

Type "fun central Bournemouth" into google and you can look around the place on google maps.

I remember the arcade on Poole Quay (Quay Amusements) being rammed with Jamma Cabs with Double Dragon being my favorite, at 30p per play :)

Those were the days!

Back in the day I saw Sega world advertised in an old gaming mag. I think it was Mean Machines. I used to dream of visiting one day, now it just sounds sad

They are already mentioned in this thread, but I wouldn't waste your time looking for any of them, it's all modern or 10 year old crap.
