For the LIFE of me I can not get these to work. I feel like I've tried everything...

My MAME setup is running on a 39" 1080p TV. I ran all of my tests w/ the Ms. Pac-Man bezel...

1) I can't get it to work with the default.lay in the bezel pack. I had to get the default.lay specifically for Ms. Pac-Man from Mr. Do's.

2) I tried changing the Video Options from Full to Cropped....changing the MAMEUI game Screen properties autoselect aspect setting on and off....

No matter what I do the best I got was having the bezel reach the left/right of the TV and the game fully reach the top/bottom of the TV....HOWEVER, the bezel was stretched and cut off on the bottom and I had to pinch in the game's horizontal a bit to fit the box.

As much as I didn't want to pinch in EVERY vertical game in my favorites, I may have if the bezel fit properly.

Is there anyone w/ a 1080p TV and MAMEUI that is willing to show me screenshots of your MAMEUI and in-game settings? I am totally stuck on what I'm missing.

Thanks

Hi

I think you may have made an error installing the artwork packs, or something. You should't need to be messing with lay files, or anything.

To install a pack, simply download it and then unzip it's contents into your MAME artwork folder. That's it. In the artwork folder, you should now have a zip file for each game in the pack. Don't unzip these files!

I've just tried it with MAMEUI64 and it works fine. You should be seeing this:

If you already have an artwork file for a specific game you may need to remove that file before you replace it with the new one

Another thing I had to do to get these to work was adjust the resolution on my computer. If your resolution is too low the bezel
will get cut off. I am using a 32 inch HDTV

My TV doesn't automatically pick the correct resolution to display the computer VGA feed , I had to go into the computer control panel and adjust the screen resolution to solve this problem setting it too low will cause the bezel to go off screen . sounds to me like you're having this very same problem

You guys rock!! It turns out it was my stupidity of unzipping the packs. Just leaving them alone as downloaded in the artwork folder really did the trick.

However....

I am NOT looking forward to tweaking Vert & Horiz stretch for my vertical games. LOL

Hey, anyone out there with a 1920x1080 resolution want to post a link to their MAME cfg files? ;)

Using these for my vertical games looks KILLER and I want to thank the original poster for the crazy amount of time and effort. As well as the kindness of sharing w/ everyone.

You're welcome. Glad you got things working. Smile

MAME config comes down to how good your MAME PC is and personal preference. However, I would recommend turning on HLSL effects if you want that original arcade CRT monitor look. I actually made these packs for use with HLSL, so the game screen curves at the edges to fit the screen bezel. You can do this by changing hlsl_enable to 1, in mame.ini. Then tweak the various HLSL settings until you get the look you like best.

You will need a reasonably good graphics card for HLSL, though.

No problem. I know how major frustrating it is when things don't work and you don't know why lol. Good gaming to you and Big 10p.

Hi, I just register because of this post. I also want to thank the author for his hard work in creating all this bezel artwork for mame. I downloaded the pre compile mame and like it very much. However, I was wondering if there is a way for the generic bezel for games that do not have them to to be something similar like this: I am not expert in photoshop. Maybe someone can make it better or the original author can do a generic bezel not plain for horizontal and vertical. I know is too much to ask and big10p is probably too busy.

I tried renaming it like the one in the artwork and it does not work. Can someone help me out. Here is the original file:

or can I use one of the big10p MAME cab artwork pack 1 artwork as default as generic bezel for the ones that do not have them.

Hi megamanwilson.

If you're using the compiled version of MAME I did that uses default artwork, you should have 6 png files in your artwork folder, named as follows:
default_horz_bezel.png
default_horz_bezel_noref.png
default_horz_bezel_noshade.png
default_vert_bezel.png
default_vert_bezel_noref.png
default_vert_bezel_noshade.png

You can replace any of these files with your own version, as long as the replacement image is 1920x1080 and the game screen window is the same size/position as in my versions. However, if you want to do a version using the same shading and/or screen reflection as mine, I'd need to dig out the PhotoShop PSD files that has those elements on separate layers. Let me know if you need them.

Alternatively, I'll have a go at creating the default images you need, when I get a spare moment - they shouldn't take long. I'd need the 2 images you want to use as a default horizontal and vertical bezel - just the bezel and no screenshot in the middle, or anything.

BTW, did you make that bezel in your post?

Hi, big10p thanks for the reply. I look at various links on how to make custom bezel on mame but could not figure it out. I Created the first image using your picture but the second picture I got I think from a thread in hyperspin a while a go;there is a guy there that does multiple bezels I think he is Grizz I am a noob at photoshop so what i did was copied and paste the picture from the second image to your image. I'll PM you.

You can't use PM here until you've made at least 10 posts. I got your email via JAMMA+, though.

If you can post a link here to the 2 bezel images I need, I'll post the results back here when I've done them.

Here are the Images. It has white space in the middle. I don't have the original photoshop files because I got the images from hyperspin. If you need them I try to hunt down whoever made them.

Unfortunately, those images are too low res and won't look good when scaled up to the required size. I need images at least 1920x1080 - the higher res, the better. Also, parts of some of the characters that extend slightly into the game screen area have been cut off.

It'd be best if you could manage to get the original bezel images from the author, I think. I just need the images not the PSD files, although, if you can get those, all the better. Smile

OK. BTW, if there's 2 bezels from the existing packs you'd like to use as defaults, that's easy to do. Just let me know which one you'd like for horizontal and vertical and I'll do them up for you.

Hi, big10p  thank you so much for doing this. I really appreciate your help. I would like for horizontal Moon Patrol  and for vertical galaxian. But could you also do a third I also like rampage. But the two main ones are Moon patrol and galaxian.

You're welcome, Wilson - thanks. Smile I can only do 1 default version for horizontal, and 1 for vertical, but I've just had a thought: as I have 3 versions for each bezel (full, no reflection and no shading), I could actually have those as 3 completely different bezels, as the default bezel. You'd then be able to choose one from the Video Options menu in MAME.

Just let me know how you prefer the look of the bezels (i.e. full artwork with reflection, no reflection or no reflection/shading) and I can do 3 versions of it for 3 bezels of your choice, for both horizontal and vertical.

Horizontal:
1 - Moon Patrol
2 - Rampage
3 - ?

Vertical:
1 - Galaxian
2 - ?
3 - ?

See what I mean?

That's a great idea having 3 bezels as default. I like full no reflection/shading. Here are my picks:
Horizontal
1. Moon Patrol
2. Rampage
3. Altered Beast

Vertical
1. Galaxian
2. Bomb Jack
3. Galaga
