Dougsy - thanks for confirming that the bug is indeed present on a Universal board as Favouredson had earlier stated.

Do you have the ability to dump the code eproms?  In particular the eproms at positions E4 and F4, as the code differences from the bug fixed versions will be in those two.

Sorry don't have the know how or the facilities to dump the roms but I hope something is confirmed now.
As I stated earlier I always thought it was only the taito version or boots that you could do the bug trick on.
I now have the knowledge

No worries.  At least now we know for sure that there are definitely bugged Universal boards out there.  Sooner or later someone will dump one of those boards and submit it to the MAME crew.

Okay!
I have checked my boards and the only one I got it to work on has flip-screen and high score save hacks so ROMs D1 & D2 are not original BUT ROM D3 (as labelled, not 03 as MAME insist on naming it) at position E4 does not match any sets currently in MAME.

All the other unchanged ROMs match the Universal set 'mrdo'.

I have just played Mr. Do! in MAME+ (with nags turned off) with my different D3 in place of the MAME one and it plays fine and the bug triggered on the first screen.

ROM audit error message...

.inp of the bug working...
mrdo-bug.zip

If you are truly bored or just crap at the game you can play from round 2 with 255 lives if you wish.

Awesome stuff Favouredson!  Looks like you've got yourself a buggy Universal board!  Get that D3 rom submitted to the MAME crew a.s.a.p. Smile

I just tried the prototype again and got it to work on my 3rd attempt, so I guess I just wasnt patient enough last night.
I wonder what the logic is that makes it work sometimes but not others, when you seemingly do exactly the same thing.

After hunting through 300 or so 2764s I found a (the?) D2 which also matches the one in the mrdo romset.
No sign of D1 though.

They probably won't let you know anything, they'll probably just include the bugged Universal version in an update to the Mr. Do! driver at some point in the future.  At least that's what they did when I submitted the Hang-On (ride on) version to them.  Keep checking the release notes in each new release and eventually it'll appear.
