Hi y'all,

Classics, and purely amount of pocket money spent as a teenage delinquent:-

1. Galaga

2. Crazy Kong

3. Choplifter

4. Outrun

Since I've met a lot of you guys, I've discovered a lot of different games, and I've found MAME, and have become addicted to teh Mahjong games.

5. Mahjong Jogakuen

Mostly because of the school uniforms and the polka-dot panties

6. Phoenix (You can blame wor_lass & dreamdvd for that one)

7. Galaxian (Entirely dreamdvd's fault)

8. Er.

9. I read Private Eye

10. That's it!

Cheers,

a_m.

Way too many good games to choose from and i like most formats except for football and some other sport games. But of the top of my head i quite like the older games.

Pengo,LadyBug,MrDo = Because the maze is changing form during play through the movements of your character or the enemy this makes it a little more interesting (especially Lady Bug)

Rastan and Rygar have a lot of quality and the games are quite long,I love the music on Rastan and completing it on 1 credit was very satisfying.

Cosmic Gurilla,Cosmic Alien,Space Invaders,Phoenix,Pleiads,Cosmic Firebird and in Particular Astro Blaster really for the memories ,in the arcades those shootem ups were loud and there sound dominated as you walked into the arcade they were instantly recognizable along with Defender but that game is overrated junk.

Pacman because i like mazegames, but mainly because i like the game characters simple but they have appeal..

Got to go now otherwise i will be typing all night......

For the highest score - Time Pilot

For the memories - Ghosts n Goblins

Of the moment - Astro Blaster

For the bouncy retro music - Sky Kid

Defender, over rated junk ????

Sorry i cant agree with you on that, the only people who come out with comments like that, are the ones who cant play it. It has amazing gameplay and it makes you think about the tactics you need to  use.

Along with Juno First and Robotron, it gets great after about level 4, as soon as the baiters start to turn up in force is when it gets really exciting.......

p.s. Garf is right, the topic was Favourite game and why ???

Yep i cannot play it about Wave 3 max for me,....tactics!? what tactics you mean carrying a humanoid around to keep the planet safe?.It has no more tactics or substance than Space Invaders. Its designed to have frantic game play to make you feel as though you are getting somewhere using skill when in fact you are just being plain lucky.,Naaaah I'm only kidding with ya Pinx i am bias with my opinion it kicked my ass in the arcade and i only recall actually inserting money into it on a few occasions and walking away in shock each time,it just seemed to get brutal way to early.I have played it on mame and do better with a joypad

I can't play Defender either, die in about 10 seconds.  Trying to play it in mame is just a total waste of time, it's one of those games where nothing but a real machine will do.  It's on my wanted list but I can't afford to pay huge amounts of money for one, I'm looking for one in a mess that I can fix!!!  But the extension has to be done first, hopfully it will start sometime over the next month if all goes to plan...

Regards

Nick

I can't play defender either - waste of a good 10p!

But once we get our defender monitor sorted and rebuild the control panel then it'll be time to try and learn it!!! can't wait!

Yep, Defender's def. on the list of those games that you need to be even slightly above bad to be able to appreciate it!

I always say i don't like the game but the truth of the matter is, it's that i simply can't play it. The game itself deserves HUGE respect as it is absolutely awesome to watch someone like Egg playing it (and just walking away because he has soooo many lives left he just can't be bothered to use them all!)

And, just like Space Invaders and Pole Position, for me it's one of those games for which the sounds just typify (sp?) the early 80's arcade noises. Mind you, pretty near anything from Williams, pinball or video used pretty much the same sound hardware, so i guess that's no big surprise

I remember playing the above games whenever Jennings Funfair came into town. Just walking into the massive trailer they had and sniffing the overheating electronics used to make me run to the change booth and fill up on 10's and 20p's. Great times! Also am really fond of Golden Axe and altered Beast even thou the latter was a bit of an arse to control. never could turn and punch the zombies quick enough!

How could i have left out Roadblasters? i played that so much that i have screen burn on my retina's!

Hmmm this is a tricky one.   If I had to pick my fave of all time it would have to be Star Wars because I played it to death as a kid, wasn't too bad at it, and it's what got me started with collecting (I promised myself as a kid that I'd have one of these one day!) :)

After that it's;

Astro Blaster and Tron, cos I also played em to death in the arcade in Broadstairs on holiday (have both of them too now) :)

My recent post mame discoveries (i.e didn't play them much back in the day cos I only had limited 10p's).

Tempest and Gravitar - both pure colour vector genius!

Special mentions also have to go to Defender, Robotron, Asteroids, and Missile command.   Just never get tired of playing them :)

Get in touch with Rav. He has one for sale at the moment. Nice one from what i remember, and most definately fully working when i played it a few weeks back. Has been on ebay twice now and not sold. AND listed it for about HALF what a Tron should have really been listed at...

The market's all screwed up at the moment!

Martin.

How much does he want for Tron? (Dream Cabinet!)

My top 3 games would have to be:

3 Wonders

StarBlade (Another cab I'd love to own!)

Terra Cresta

My brother and I, spent too many summer holidays tracking down Terra Cresta cabs and playing them, even though we were somewhat poo at it
All gone :)

Which for Tron incidentally is NOT an over the top price!

Back a couple of years ago when admittedly everything was getting higher prices you could easily have paid 1500 for a nice Tron from a collector. Bear in mind that (as Retrokade) usually puts some sort of warranty on it (i don't know the details - use the "ask seller a question" to find out) and can normally organise delivery (for a cost of course) then i really don't think a 750 starting bid is all that bad!! (of course the 999 BIN will dissapear if you use the 750 start bid).

I should mention that i am in no way associated with or Retrokade in any kind of business sense. Just like a lot of people, know him and (maybe not like so many people) have recently played that particular machine.

Anyway, sales pitch over

Enjoy if you decide to bid...

I have owned two Tron's over the years and WILL own another. The next one though WILL be a Tron mini, so i have a feeling i may be waiting a very long time for that one

I have to agree with Martin, 750 is very cheap for a working Tron.  I paid nearly that for a dead one (a few years ago).    I think Rav's one has some new artwork on it as well so it'll look really nice!

Commission time! Heheh

Actually the machines available if people want to come and have a look and a play - I've nothing to hide! (Based near Chichester/Portsmouth)

Also do have another tron project that we can haggle on if people want a D-I-Y project :)

Regards

Rav

What about the mutant and swarmer reverse lines?? they
give it plenty of tactics not to mention the shoot the
pod quick reverse and chase the swarmers, they can't
shoot backwards, just make sure you shoot em all before
they turn!!!
