Due to popular demand I'm going to resurect an old thread from Killercabs...

I spotted a badly advertised broken "Arcade Mania" cab on ebay and snapped it up for the opening bid of £75 + a 70 Mile drive to fetch it.

So initial thoughts....

Nasty X-Arcade joysticks and red buttons, Screens a bit small (bezel's a bit wide), cheapo function buttons.

Cab build quality is actually quite good and it has a serial number sticker with "CE", warentee void if removed sticker. Two screws hold the back door in place.

Lets start taking this to bits.....

As you can now see - its a cheap 12/14" TV with a scart socket, a resistor has been soldered to the back of the socket so it switches to AV on switch-on.

The controls are the cheapest X-Arcade clone sticks & buttons i've seen and are wired to a 25-pin din plug which plugs into this black box that has been velcro'd onto the shelf - Suprise, the CP is actually earthed!

The black box has three wires coming out, Mains-in, Composite video out to scart plug (they didnt even bother fitting the scart cover) & a 25-pin din that connects to the CP.

Lets "Open the box!"

Yes - your eyes do not decieve you that is a de-cased multi-voltage transformer glued in the corner of a Maplins project box. and it's powering a de-cased x-in-1 Joypad. So about £20 tops....

Let's Improve it so I can get rid of it.

Replaced the sticks with Sanwa and the buttons with some Semitsiu I had lying around & connect them up to an I-PAC.

Added two buttons on the top for PC power & Reset.

De-cased an old 15" Compaq TFT I had and screwed the base to the original monitor shelf (needed a bit of beefing up with some extra MDF and a couple of L-brackets) - not shown I pug a piece of wood across the inside of the cab behind the top of the screen to stop it tipping backwards..

The PC is an AMD XP 2000 with 512M ram, 40G hdd and MAME V100 + Mamewah frontend.

Sound is provided by some de-cased USB powered PC speakers.

Job done....

So can you identify what 150 in 1 game thing the pcb is out of, I'd love to see a pic of one and the cost of itSmile

Those Compaq monitors were dreadful, wonder where you got that fromWink I worked out the faults on the psu being dead and the monitor screen interference issues, apart from that the backlights were about deadLOL
