I don't think the King of Games is that bad to be honest.
Its basically a hacked older FBANext running the games on a MIPS processor.
The ROM's are easy enough to copy off / onto the board.

I'm busy reverse engineering the software side so I can replace the emulation software with a frame fixed version.  I can dump the NAND almost, once I have that done, I can start on compiling up either Linux for it, or using the current MINIOS.

The board is decent enough from a hardware perspective from my POV.  CPU has enough oomph to do whats needed.

Ram is 64M, Flash is 4G, so plenty of space for most of the CPS / CPS2 etc.

As is,  its got support for
CPS1 works
CPS2 works
CPS1-SYSTEM-DASH works
NEO-GEO works
Psyko - works
Cave (older stuff)

The menu is pretty much hard coded to show details based on the filename, so while you can copy in some more games that FBANext supports, menu shows "Unknown filename".   Rom format is more CPS style than MAME style, so you may need to play around a bit to get a "supported" rom to work.

I have some details on stuff I've done here -
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=108550.msg1279715#msg1279715

and in my blog at http://www.computersolutions.cn/blog

PS
I live in China, and have been buying whats available to check out, and I build my own machines here for fun and (not much) profit.

These boards always seem good. But unless its 60fps ( I understand alot of these are locked at 30fps?)And no frame skip, it loses all its coolness instantly.

The mvs multicarts are cool, though. It's just a pitty they don't put some of the older games on like ;nam, cyber lip etc. Is there any need for 20 versions of king of fighters taking up all the space?? Oof! ;/

To paraphrase an 80's (or was it 70's?) TV show:

A board barely alive.  We can rebuild it, we have the technology, we can make it better than it was before; better, stronger, faster.

:)

Anyway, I'm working on that, so should be able to have something like the above in the next month or three.

Unless I get distracted with new shiny toys in the interim of course!

Not that I *need* to post for a 10th post or anything, but yeah, I'll keep people posted.

I have a few preliminary bits and bobs up on my blog at http://www.computersolutions.cn/blog

I did just open a forum on my retrosticks.com site though, so will probably move the work to there.
Otherwise my blog has a tendency to get too specific.

eg Previous stuff -> ipcam reverse engineering went to openipcam.com vs bazilliion posts and questions.

So far I've covered things like BMW hackery, Embedded stuff, and the odd Arcade bits and bobs.
Embedded stuff leans nicely to the arcade side though so work and play get to mix, yay!.

Picked up the 138-1 from the sorting office today. Runs a bit funny the sound seems to only work if its in a certain postion could be my cab though. The emulation on them aint that great on most of the games I tried. KFM is on half speed. The sound on Pac-land is shite also scrolling is a bit crap on most of them. Lucky I've got PL and KFM pcbs Tongue Hyper Sports works quite well though Gauntlet is just about a pass Metrocross scrolls badly LOL Overall its quite good!

Got my 138-in-1 yesterday and have had a good run through of it, here are my thoughts.

Setting up and initial observations

· Nice small board, proper volume pot rather than having to adjust through a menu.
· Setup pages easy to get to by holding a switch on power up. Can adjust individual game settings.
· Boot time - 15 seconds from power to menu, games load quickly.

On first plugging in I got nothing but a blank screen on my Egret II. I've had this before with multi boards on this cab so tried it on another jamma cab and it booted fine.

Made a little adapter that cut pin 27 as the board uses that for button 6 and the cab wants a ground there, linked all the other grounds and it fired up fine.

Interesting selection of games, menu is ok - coin in and pick a game from the menu, screenshot loads for each game in the list.

I went through a good selection of games and tried to pick ones I know so I can judge how well they run, some are almost unplayable, some are fine. Volime levels are all similar unlike other multi boards I've tried.

Insert credit > pick game > game loads and adds a credit for you > at game over the game stays on (unlike 60-in-1 etc.) and you can add more credits or continue. To return to the menu hold 1p start for 5 seconds.

Edit Mode

· To enter config power on and when the 'Game Family' screen appears hold the switch in next to the dip switches. This will bring up the config menu.

· You can choose game edit from here and turn on or off games in the list, turn on freeplay, timer etc.

· If you leave edit mode on you can go back to the main game list and alter dips for each game.

· Free play is well thought out - pick your game then press 1p or 2p start to insert a coin, it's the perfect way to have freeplay set on a board like this.

Game list and performance

Run down of some games and how they hold up, marked as L.S - small amount of frameskip, M.S - moderate frameskip, H.S - Heavy frameskip, X - almost unplayable, OK - Runs fine.

1. Defender L.S
2. Stargate L.S
3. Bubbles OK
4. Joust OK

5. Robotron OK - Hold button 2 to move with the stick, hold button 3 to fire with the stick - works quite well!
6. Blaster OK
7. Splat OK
8. Rally X L.S
9. Battle City OK
10. Mario Bros. OK
11. New Rally X L.S.
12. Ghosts n' Goblins L.S
13. Solomons Key OK
14. Sky Kid L.S
15. The Fairyland Story X (runs at half speed)
16. Super Mario Bros. H.S
17. Do! Run Run OK
18. Kick Rider M.S.
19. 4-D Warriors OK
20. Acrobatic Dog Fight M.S.
21. Airwolf OK
22. Cobra Command M.S.
23. Missile Command OK
24. Super Missile Command OK
25. Shoot Out OK
26. Street Fight H.S.
27. Swimmer L.S.
28. Time Tunnel OK
29. Black Dragon L.S
30. Tricky Doc OK
33. Bank Panic OK
57. Green Beret OK
64. Wonderboy L.S
69. Insector X H.S
89. Pac-Land X (bad sound, runs about 2fps)
94. Pitfall II OK
104. Rygar M.S
109. Sega Ninja OK
117. Yie Ar Kung Fu X (runs at half speed)
118. Tetris OK
121. Double Dragon (OK but sound is bad)
122. Double Dragon 2 (OK but sound is bad)
123. Hyper Olympic OK
126. Life Force L.S
129. Hyper Sports OK
132. Plump Pop H.S (runs at half speed)
134. Blood Bros. L.S
136. Rambo OK
137. Gauntlet OK (some picture is cut though as it's too big)
138. Tetris (sega) OK

There are a number of duplicates in the list, I counted 5 on a quick look (boots/different regions)

Obviously there's a lot more games in the list I didn't try, it seems that static screen games and older titles run fine others vary in quality.

There are some good titles on there that run well so certainly worth it for those, some won't be worth playing at all. Sound seems to be ok for the majority of the games which is usually an issue with these type of boards. Not a bad deal for the money, although I wish the manufacturers would just put a better processor on there so they would run everything right.

Bubble Bobble Twin Galaxies Official Score 6,060,730, Rainbow Islands 9,999,990, Road Fighter 1,174,510.
