I know i semi started one before, it got a bit messy though. I was going to make the first few posts of this thread only for reviews of the boards then just general banter after that.
Makes it easier to find the info rather than going through pages of info Smile.

Neo Geo
There's probably only going to be 2 kinds your going to go for, the 150/161-1 or the super 138-1.

150/161-1

Pro's
Cheaper than the 138-1
No pass through board
Sexy yellow carts LOL
Original hardware(kinda) so games are pretty much spot on

Con's
Too many KoF games/hacks
Maybe not for the purists

Conclusion
I never had any issues with all the ones i bought, now i didnt sit down and play everygame to completion so there *may be* the occasional glitch here and there. General thoughts, you can't really complain with most of the Neo multi carts, the price of most of them drops buy the day and for roughly 40p a game are pretty good value for money.

Super 138-1

Pro's

Better games selection than the 161/1 ( this is in my opinion, there's not a huge amount of difference but it has Twinkle Star Sprites and other top neo games)

Cons
More expensive than the other type
Not as easy to get a hold of
The OSD board may not be to everyones liking
Take's a couple of second to load

Conclusion
There really isnt too much between the boards you paying less than 50p a game so you can't complain, i personally have the 138-1 due to game choice but everyones different.

CPS 1 Multi board
CPS1 14-1

Picked it up from jammaboards, fast delivery and well packed.
Pros:

14 great games(13 i think as streetsmart seems to be a hack of final fight), that work flawlessly(from what i've tested)
Easy to navigate between the games
Uses the original hardware so no emulation
Cons:

Not alot really, the board with the OSD sub board is pretty long, just fits in my cab with the jamma loom
Requires a kick harness to play the SF2 games properly, which is supplied
Overall
Top stuff, saves swapping boards and saves space Clap
May not be the cheapest but if you want them perfect....

ICADE 19-1 Horozontal
Pro's
Some great classic games
Pretty Cheap
one nice small board

Con's
Some of the sound fx/music can be a bit ropey
About 1 minute load time

Conclusion
If you want an easy way to roll back the years, you could do alot worse than this Smile

Available here:

ICADE 60-1 Vertical

Pro's
60 games, alot of classics
Again pretty cheap
Most of the games run/sound fine

Con's
2 minutes boot up time(roughly)
Some sound effects/music a bit ropey

Conclusion

As the 19-1 but even better value for money.

Blue Elf/Pink Elf

I think must current videos don't really show the blue elf in its true form, but i guess there not complete reviews. Just a video showing some game play and menu etc. I have played all the CPS/CPS2 games it has and 50% of the Neo Geo games. This is what i have found.

Menu - looks ok, Video animation is very jumpy, you have to insert a coin to select a game.

In game - The game boots up and after a few seconds it gives you 1 credit. You must hold down player 1 to access the mini in game menu of either continue or exit. If you continue it will give you another credit (if you have any) 1 at a time if you have no more credits it does nothing. This only credits for that particular game. If you choose exit it takes you back to the menu.

Settings - When you are on the menu screen (only) push the little black button on the cart itself.
Hold it down for 2 seconds to reset the cart.
Hold it down for 5 seconds to access the settings

Setting include difficulty for CPS, CPS2, SNK Fighting and SNK other.
Volume, return to menu with no credit after ?? minutes on or off. etc etc

Sound - Is pretty poor (mainly CPS games like King of Dragons and Knights of the Round. I found that if you turn the volume up more than 4 bars the sound improves and the louder the sound the clearer it is. For example Final Fight, Mega Twins and 3 Wonders all sound poor on 1-4 bars of sound but better on 5+ bars of volume Captain Commando and SF2 with volume around 9+. CPS games are generally quieter than CPS2 and Neo Geo games so i can't turn the volume up to high or i will wake the house up (not good). I have only tested the volume up to 15 out of 30 as its very very loud. In general the sound quality is pretty poor. At first i thought it was shocking. After i had a play around with it i was much happier.

Games - It has
16 CPS games + a hack of Warrior of Fate where you can change character by pushing player 1 start
28 CPS2 games and the rest are Neo Geo

Verdict -

PROS
for £47 i paid its worth it just about IMOSmile,
Plugs straight into a jamma cab no messing aboutSmile,
Games list includes some of my favourites Final Fight, G n G, Gigawing, 1944 and StriderSmile.
Most games seem to run at full speed/90% speedSmile.

CONS
No Free play optionAngry,
having to insert credits over during playAngry,
Sound isn't the best, turning it up helps Angry,

Games to forget

Forgotten World = You can not rotate weapon direction (only shot forward)AngryAngry
Zed Blade = missing background sprites (could be just my cart)AngryAngry
Strikers 1945 = runs at 30fpsAngryAngry

I have played some of these games on MAME straight after playing them on the blue elf and some on original hardware and it really is a mixed bag. If you really are not into setting up mame and don't mind games that are not quite right GET ONE. If your happy with mame stick with it. I like to have both, don't know why.

There are quite a few Blue Elfs out there and a new pink one tooLOL. This is how i found the 108 in 1 and its okThumbs Up. When i get round to doing a video i will let you know. If you careBig smile

Spent a few evenings trying this multi pcb out

Pros

Plug and play
14 games run at 95-99% imo (use 3 or less buttons)
Nice Menu and easy to change options
Mini usb to hook up to a computer

Cons

All neo geo games and most other run at the incorrect speed (to fast)
Sound quality is poor on most games
Some working games are 1 player only
No Free Play

Multi PC/MAME units:

Basically a PC with a number of emulators (Mame, Neo4all, etc). Comes with a kick harness and requires a seperate power supply. I believe they can also be linked together but never tried it.

Very simple to use, just turn it on at the same time as your cabinet, takes about 5 minutes to load. Goes straight into a front end, each game has a snapshot. Games are sorted into lists and can be changed with the 1st & 2nd button. Pressing the 1P button loads the game. Holding the 1P exits the game.

My model has 1054 games. Version 1.1 (P4). All games can be adjusted with the dipswitch. Runs in 15, 24 & 31 khz. Mine has never saved high scores (might be something I'm doing/not doing).

It has alot of duplicates (the same game but a different region) and bootlegs.

Emulation is generally good. The CPS2 stuff runs perfectly no my eyes (Had a CPS board in the past). Afew other games are not running at 100% of the speed.

If you want a quick, easy solution to multiple game in one cabinet then I'd recommend it.

Got my 138-in-1 yesterday and have had a good run through of it, here are my thoughts.

Setting up and initial observations

· Nice small board, proper volume pot rather than having to adjust through a menu.
· Setup pages easy to get to by holding a switch on power up. Can adjust individual game settings.
· Boot time - 15 seconds from power to menu, games load quickly.

On first plugging in I got nothing but a blank screen on my Egret II. I've had this before with multi boards on this cab so tried it on another jamma cab and it booted fine.

Made a little adapter that cut pin 27 as the board uses that for button 6 and the cab wants a ground there, linked all the other grounds and it fired up fine.

Interesting selection of games, menu is ok - coin in and pick a game from the menu, screenshot loads for each game in the list.

I went through a good selection of games and tried to pick ones I know so I can judge how well they run, some are almost unplayable, some are fine. Volime levels are all similar unlike other multi boards I've tried.

Insert credit > pick game > game loads and adds a credit for you > at game over the game stays on (unlike 60-in-1 etc.) and you can add more credits or continue. To return to the menu hold 1p start for 5 seconds.

Edit Mode

· To enter config power on and when the 'Game Family' screen appears hold the switch in next to the dip switches. This will bring up the config menu.

· You can choose game edit from here and turn on or off games in the list, turn on freeplay, timer etc.

· If you leave edit mode on you can go back to the main game list and alter dips for each game.

· Free play is well thought out - pick your game then press 1p or 2p start to insert a coin, it's the perfect way to have freeplay set on a board like this.

Game list and performance

Run down of some games and how they hold up, marked as L.S - small amount of frameskip, M.S - moderate frameskip, H.S - Heavy frameskip, X - almost unplayable, OK - Runs fine.

1. Defender L.S
2. Stargate L.S
3. Bubbles OK
4. Joust OK

5. Robotron OK - Hold button 2 to move with the stick, hold button 3 to fire with the stick - works quite well!
6. Blaster OK
7. Splat OK
8. Rally X L.S
9. Battle City OK
10. Mario Bros. OK
11. New Rally X L.S.
12. Ghosts n' Goblins L.S
13. Solomons Key OK
14. Sky Kid L.S
15. The Fairyland Story X (runs at half speed)
16. Super Mario Bros. H.S
17. Do! Run Run OK
18. Kick Rider M.S.
19. 4-D Warriors OK
20. Acrobatic Dog Fight M.S.
21. Airwolf OK
22. Cobra Command M.S.
23. Missile Command OK
24. Super Missile Command OK
25. Shoot Out OK
26. Street Fight H.S.
27. Swimmer L.S.
28. Time Tunnel OK
29. Black Dragon L.S
30. Tricky Doc OK
33. Bank Panic OK
57. Green Beret OK
64. Wonderboy L.S
69. Insector X H.S
89. Pac-Land X (bad sound, runs about 2fps)
94. Pitfall II OK
104. Rygar M.S
109. Sega Ninja OK
117. Yie Ar Kung Fu X (runs at half speed)
118. Tetris OK
121. Double Dragon (OK but sound is bad)
122. Double Dragon 2 (OK but sound is bad)
123. Hyper Olympic OK
126. Life Force L.S
129. Hyper Sports OK
132. Plump Pop H.S (runs at half speed)
134. Blood Bros. L.S
136. Rambo OK
137. Gauntlet OK (some picture is cut though as it's too big)
138. Tetris (sega) OK

There are a number of duplicates in the list, I counted 5 on a quick look (boots/different regions)

Obviously there's a lot more games in the list I didn't try, it seems that static screen games and older titles run fine others vary in quality.

There are some good titles on there that run well so certainly worth it for those, some won't be worth playing at all. Sound seems to be ok for the majority of the games which is usually an issue with these type of boards. Not a bad deal for the money, although I wish the manufacturers would just put a better processor on there so they would run everything right.

The E2 cab cab coins up other boards fine though so i don't think it's a cab issue, anyone else want to try? LOL

My multiboards wouldn't coin up on my E2. Had to link the grounds on pin 1 & 28 I think.

Yeah worked fine after that.
It wasn't a pretty or permanent solution but I wedged a bit of cable in the back of pin 1 in the loom and then stuck the other end in the grounds at the other edge of the loom (27 or 28 or the other side) until I found the one it worked for.

I think the problem comes from the fact a lot of the multi boards aren't true jamma as they've added connections for extra buttons to 27 & e on the connector and so you have to sort the grounding out on there.
